Nancy welcomed everyone
Fall Retreat - Exciting things are coming up for the Syracuse Quilt Guild, starting with another wonderful retreat planned at My Sister's Quilt Shoppe in Logan, Utah on October 11, 2014.  We'll be sewing, gabbing and eating from 10 in the morning to six in the afternoon.  It doesn't get much better than that.  Nancy sent around an interest sheet to see how many are planning on coming but if you didn't sign up, there is still time to let Nancy know you'd like to come.  More info to come....

Block of the Month - Nancy talked about the BOM the guild is starting, completely voluntary for anyone wanting to join in on this fun pattern.  She handed out copies of the first month's block which is a 34 inch square block; now that's the way to start things off.  She can also email a copy to anyone who didn't get a copy, just let her know.  Yikes 14 yards of fabric in the pattern but we discussed using our stash to stretch the dollars.

Birthdays - We missed our sweet Olivia celebrating a September birthday but we'll catch up with her next month.  Cathy thought she'd get away with not sharing because she didn't bring a quilt to share but we asked her to tell us about her quilting journey anyway.  She told us a fun story about going into a quilt shop and signing up for a Thimbleberry Class even though she had never made a quilt.  She was a "Wannabe" quilter and just pretended she understood all the language and talk but she hung in and started her quilting journey.  Says she is still a Wannabe Quilter but we all know better, She is a Quilter.

Jelly Roll Quilts for the Foster Kids Program

Nancy showed off the quilts the Guild made to donate to the Utah State Guild's Foster Child Program.  The guild donated eleven quilts for this worthy cause.  Several members also made jelly roll quilts for the Quilt of Valor program that Diane presented in a special reunion of Viet Nam Veterans.

Napkins?

Nancy gave a presentation on making some special napkins for the upcoming holidays.  We also watched a couple of videos on folding napkins by a delightful gentlemen.  He showed us how to make a Princess Fold and a Crown Fold used at the Palace.  I'm sure I'll be doing that but as Mardell mentioned I think you need the polka music in the background to be successful.
You do what Nancy?

Don't forget next month we'll have our regular meeting on Tuesday, October 14, at the Syracuse Community Center and as a bonus we will having a Retreat in Logan at My Sister's Quilt Shoppe on October 11.
