March 11, 2014 A wee bit of green...

I think I saw a wee bit of green this month in keeping with our new tradition of wearing a color of the month, naturally March was Green. There was lots of great information shared this month along with some great show and tell.

Our President, Nancy, brought us up to date on some of our members and we all wish Yvonne well on her battle and hope to see her back with us soon .  We are also thinking of Belinda while she is with her Mother who is in failing health.

Nancy also thanked everyone for donating so much for the stationary baskets for the Silent Auction during the National Quilt Day Celebration.  Awesome job everyone!

National Quilt Day

Nancy brought us up to date on plans for the National Quilt Day celebration to be held at Legacy Village on Friday, March 21, from 1-7 p.m. and Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There is going to be a lot of fun activities, trunk shows, craft items for sale.  Be sure to invite your friends.  Nancy reminded everyone she is still in need of volunteers to sit at our booth, watch quilts and work at the welcome booth.  She put up a sign-up sheet and several of the group volunteered but there is always room for more help so consider helping out when you come to visit.  Also, if you have any quilts you would like to display (quilts must be less than 65", with a label attached) give Nancy a call or email her.  Our guild can display up to six quilts along with a quilt for our booth.

May Quilt Retreat

Nancy shared some exciting news with the guild.  One of the things our guild indicated during an earlier survey was that they would love to have a retreat. Nancy, Belinda and Becky traveled north to Logan and visited My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe where they have a wonderful "attic" (check it out on their website at link above) that they let you use for retreats.  It includes everything but the sewing machines and your own tools for a wonderful day of sewing, gabbing and enjoying a day away.  We have reserved the room for Tuesday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  This will take the place of our regular May meeting.  Nancy asked everyone for ideas of things to do while we are there and she suggested we have an open sewing, free time for half the day and perhaps in the afternoon everyone who wanted to participate join in a Jelly Roll Race contest.  See the Missouri Star Quilt Company for a fun jelly roll quilt tutorial.  Don't forget to bring ideas to April's meeting for meal ideas, carpooling, projects.

Quilts of Valor

Diane was excited to share that 800 quilt tops were completed nationwide on March 1.  What an awesome group!

Utah State Quilt Guild

Pam brought the group up to date on the doings of the Utah State Quilt Guild and reminded everyone that dues are $20 and due by the end of March.  You can find more information and forms on the website at Utah Quilt Guild.
