Syracuse Quilt Guild meets Days for Girls

The Syracuse Quilt Guild had a great meeting on July 14, 2015 with a little Sew and Tell, a couple of birthdays to celebrate and a Sew-In to make hygiene kits for the Days for Girls Organization.

Our charity quilt top is put together.  Who knew those fabrics would turn out so pretty.

Maggie showing some of the completed sample hygiene kits for Days for Girls.  Welcome back Maggie after traveling the country.

Maggie draws for the next door prize winner.  Love those "lollipops"

 Birthdays for July

Our first birthday girl Jeanette shows off the quilt she won at the Clinton Days Quilt Show.  What a nice birthday gift for her.

Our next birthday girl, Nancy, had a lot to share today.  She just got back from a trip east and visited several quilt shops while traveling bringing back lots of Row by Row Experience quilt patterns that she shared with the group.
Nancy's lovely "Lady Slipper" quilt done in pretty purples and greens.

Rose Ann thought we might forget her birthday since it was last month and she wan't here  but no, we don't work that way.

Block of the Month

Nancy shared the last two block for our Block of the Month Quilt. In September, we will get the finishing pattern.  Very nice

 Sew and Tell

Kim's pretty chevron quilt with some really cute fabric with shoes in it.

Barbara has been busy making adorable "dolly quilts" for her granddaughters

Another cute doll quilt Barbara

Belinda's pretty Red, White and Blue Kimberbell quilt

Becky's Red, White and Blue wall quilt

She called this one her Self-Portrait of her and her husband
and their camper, including a "Ham Antennae" for her husband's
radio hobby.  (Almost as expensive as quilting)

Days for Girls

We welcomed Julie Treadwell of  "Days for Girls,"  an organization providing feminine hygiene products for girls in third world countries.  These girls don't have access to all the products of the western world so they miss a lot of "days" from school.  These kits allow the girls to attend school instead of staying home. What a great ambassador Julie is for this great organization.

Aprons

Girls in some of the African countries make aprons, small stuffed animals (zebras, giraffes, and leopards) and bags made of a local fabric called Titanga.
love the bright colors in these aprons and bags

 Working Away

Nancy and Kim work on pressing while Yvonne and a guest worked on trimming and sewing.

Barbara, Mardell and Maggie hard at work

Marsha and her daughter banished to the Serger side of the room

Such concentration

Mardell just working away
