June 2017 Meeting
Hey Quilters!
We had another stellar meeting this month. We missed all of you who didn't make it, but we understand how busy summer can be!
Our meeting started out with announcements from the Utah Quilt Guild from Sandra.
- Did you get registered for Quilt Fest? Registration is live at utahquiltguild.org. Don't forget to add on your luncheons for each day you are there.
- Sandra also brought some samples of quilts that are being taught: The first two pictured below are from Kaye Evans, the basket & Ruby Slippers will be taught by Paula Dalby , and Ruth Davis will be teaching I Heard It on Vinyl.

Next up, we opened and shared the traveling box quilts, which have made their full rounds. We had some great reveals! (but only one picture - we'll have to wait for the final projects!)Mardell's churn dash blocks turned out so cute!
We then moved on to our first ever Mini-Swap. It was a lot of fun seeing what everyone picked, and we only had a couple of minis that were fought over.
Sew and Tell came next.
Margo showed us some mini- quilts she has made in the past. She's done everything from intricate beadwork, paper-piecing, to humorous mini-quilts.
From our newest (returning) member Glory, we saw a beautiful quilt that her daughter worked on then decided to hand off to Glory after matching up all those points. Glory finished it off with some amazing quilting!
Jeanette brought two unique mini-quilts she had purchased in the past from National Quilt Day events.
Kim brought this quirky flamingo quilt she finished this past month.
For the main event:
Paula Dalby taught us her Fast and Furious Method for Binding. She does all of her binding on her sewing machine - no hand sewing for her! She also demonstrated her method for making 2 color flange binding. She has a really slick method that is pretty much fail-proof. Here are some pictures of how her binding looks when it's all done-
Next, she demonstrated how to make her two color flange binding. Paula showed us how to use precisely drawn seam allowance lines to get it all perfect after it is sewn.
Then she demoed how to make Continuous Band Prairie Points. Her method makes these look so easy. It will be fun to see in the future how many of our guild members add this detail to their finished quilts!
Thanks so much to Paula for showing us quick and easy ways to conquer these two techniques!
Next month is our annual picnic & bingo!
Plan to bring your best potluck dish to share (don't hold back here - what is your favorite dish to show your best cooking with!)
Also, we will do Bingo with the prizes you all provide, so be destashing your old quilt magazines, fabric, gadgets you've bought but never really used, used patterns, threads, etc. The more we all bring, the more prizes there will be to take home.
The Picnic will be held at the Community Center in the cafeteria room at 1 pm on July 11. We hope to see you all there!
