Welcome to 2019
Madam President hides behind her Zinger Block |
Syracuse Quilters are off to a great start for 2019. "Madam" President Suzanne opened the meeting saying that since she was elected as President of the group, her husband now refers to her as Madam President. However, she is a very warm and friendly Prez and talked about her plans for the coming year. She shared lots of fun ideas and started in December with the Zinger Quilt Blocks. Each month two members can take a package containing an orange "zinger" fabric and some black and white print. They will take it home and bring back their block next month. Later in the year we will put together the blocks for a Zinger Quilt.
Some of the other plans for the year include a Sew-In in May with place to be determined. Also instead of a choosing a specific charity to support, each member may choose a charity of their choice to make a quilt. There were so many great opportunities to support including blocks or quilts Fisher House, Cancer Quilts, Hero Quilts, and so many more. If you'd like your quilt identified as coming from the guild, we have labels to attach to your quilt.
Sandra said she has decided to stay on as our Area Rep with the State Quilt Guild until someone "volunteers" to replace her. She gave a great report Quilt Fest. She said that this year each guild can rent a table in the Vendors area for $25 on Wednesday and sell items, auction a quilt or whatever you'd like to raise money for your guild. She also reminded us that we could have a quarter page ad in Beeline once a year at no charge.
This year's Opportunity Quilt is actually a set of Bed Runner quilts that are just gorgeous. Tickets for candy along with an opportunity to win these beautiful quilts are $1 or 6 for $5. Here are pictures of three of these beauties.

Suzanne reported that there were a couple of projects on our interest sheets that everyone voted for including the "Three Fat Quarter Table runner" and the "BUM" Butt ugly material challenge. We will start with the table runner beginning next month. Everyone who wants to participate will bring three fat quarters and instructions or pattern for a table runner. The packages will be exchanged and each participant will take a packet to complete and return in May.
The BUM project will require each participant to take a fat quarter ($1 for your fat quarter) of the BUM (butt ugly material) and include it in a project. You will have to use most of the fat quarter (no slivers of BUM) in your project. Sandy from Sew N Save was going to do a trunk show in February but just couldn't fit us in so instead she is providing a gift certificate as a prize for this challenge. She has also graciously offered to be on the lookout for some wonderful ugly fabric. Sounds like a lot of fun, can't wait to get started.

Margo's very pretty and cheerful quilt |
The back of Margo's quilt is just as pretty and cheerful as the front. |
Sorry Nancy I didn't get a picture of your sweet baskets. They are so cute and we love that you donated them to use for our door prizes and birthday gifts. Birthdays this year will include a sweet tissue holder for your purse.
A great start to a great year and we even welcomed a new members, Ursula McClure, Barbara Thompson and welcomed Teri Zorko back after some time away. So happy these ladies are joining us.
Always the best part, conversation with friends |
See you next month.
So Glad I was able to resume my membership with Syracuse Quilters. I plan on participating as I can, and sure enjoy the Show and Tell!
