March Quilters are Lucky
What a great meeting with new prospective members, gorgeous quilts, some really ugly material and lots of beautiful fabric to share.
Suzanne opened the meeting welcoming two visitors that we hope will join us in our fun quilting adventures. She also notes that our area rep, Marilyn, had a death in the family and wouldn't be with us today. We send our condolences to Marilyn.
News to Note
This coming Saturday, March 16, there will be an activity for National Quilt Day to be held in Sandy. More information can be found on our facebook page Syracuse Utah Quilters or the
utahquiltguild.org There is also information about the Blackfoot Idaho Quilt Show on March 30 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Entry is $3.00. Suzanne sent around a interest sheet for anyone interested in carpooling up together. If anyone is interested that didn't sign up, contact Suzanne.
BUM - Butt Ugly Material (can I say that here)

Orange and gold metallic ugliness |
Suzanne introduced a challenge to take a fat quarter of some "really ugly material" and make something out of it for our June meeting. You must use a major part of the fat quarter on the front of a project. It can be a quilt, a bag, or any other project No prom dresses though; we couldn't do that to anyone. Since it is an orange and gold fabric, it might work out for a "Sew Bewitching" mini for Quilt Fest. We shared a few giggles and ooh, I'm not sure I can handle that, remarks. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.
Zinger Blocks
Three more great "Zinger Blocks" to add to our future quilt. 12 inch blocks made with a zinger orange, with black and white. Thanks to Nancy, Anita and Connie.

Longarm Tips
Jennifer, one of our members and professional longarmer shared some great tips for working with a longarmer on quilting your quilts. She went over pricing and suggestions for preparing your quilts to be quilted so you will have a beautiful quilt.
A few highlights of her suggestions
- Make sure top is pressed with seams flat and threads trimmed
- Square up your quilt and backing so you don't have wavy borders or uneven with tucks and pleats
- Make your backing at least 8 inches larger than your quilt to allow for smooth edge to edge quilting and loading to the frame.
- Talk to your quilter and make sure all your needs are addressed before she starts your quilt.
Free for All
We received donations (I mean boxes and boxes) of fabric for our guild to go through thanks to Crystal's cleaning out of her Mother-in-Laws homeand another friend of Suzanne's who lost her mother. We give thanks to these lovely quilters and sewists and may they know in heaven that their stash is being taken care of and loved.
