Syracuse Utah Quilt Guild

September 10, 2024

Co-Vice Presidents Kathy & Nancy opened our meeting this month.

Kathy brought her skeleton sewing machine.

Some of our Guild members told how much they enjoyed Quilt Fest this year.

Suzanne, our Area Representative, announced that next
year's Utah Quilt Guild Quilt Fest will held be October 7th - 11th, 2025
at the Davis Conference Center in Layton.
The theme will be "It's a Scrappy World."

We are encouraged to make a Scrappy Charm Quilt
using 2" x 3 1/2"  rectangles with no two blocks from the same fabric.
It was suggested that we could swap fabrics with other guild members.
To organize and keep track of which fabrics were used the "bricks" could
be put in see through bags organized by colors.

There will be a quilt show September 21st West Haven City Hall
from 5 - 8pm.

September 13th - 14th is the Garden of Quilts Exhibit
at Thanksgiving Point.  There is an admission charge.

Visitors Maryann, Connie, Kathy, and Susan were welcomed.

Susan did the Door Prize drawings for fat quarters
and Lori passed out birthday gifts for September birthdays.

Mardell announced the Sew-in next Wednesday, September 18th
at the Community Center from 10am to  3pm
Bring your sewing machine and come work on assembling donated quilt blocks
or bring your own project to sew.

Susan donated this soft flannel comfort Quilt.

Maryann came with Holly and  brought this very pretty quilt to show.
She also showed us a Lori Holt quilt pattern and blocks she is working on.

Holly made this beautiful wool and flannel applique quilt.

Teri's comfort quilt was made using the square in a square quilt block.

Becky finished this pretty quilt top at Quilt Fest.  She used only 3 yards of fabric.

Mardell worked on this Rail Fence  quilt at Quilt Fest.

Marlene showed this gorgeous quilt that was a Moda Block of the Month quilt
by Moda designers.  She used Buttercream and Figs fabric.
She started on it in 2012.  Jennifer custom quilted it.  What a great finish.

Ruth made this stunning Star of David quilt.
She has 6 children with each represented by the  6 points on the star.
Scriptures about Christ's birth are on the outside edge of the quilt.

Ruth taught math in school and made this cute jacket to help teach geometry.

Monette Showed a quilt given to her and her husband after they served
a mission in the inner city of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Suzanne used 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles to make this green and white quilt.
Nancy's husband quilted it and Suzanne is going to donate it as a comfort quilt.

Her tree quilt is not a Christmas Tree but a January winter quilt for her porch.

Suzanne's pinwheel quilt was made from cut away triangle scraps left over from another quilt.
She also showed the beginnings of a row quilt.

This amazing quilt was an online quilt project that took 6 to 8 years.
It was done in squares and was all hand pieced.
Jennifer machine quilted it on a longarm quilting machine.  .

Kathy has a good start on the 24 "Field of France" blocks she is making
for a queen sized quilt.

Nancy and Kathy had a couple of fun activities at the end of the meeting for us.

We were given a Friendship paper bag with a button, mint, tissue, candy kisses
life saver, Band-Aid, rubber band, eraser, etc. to help remind
us how we can be and help a friend.

We finished the meeting by playing the Quilting Feud game.

Happy Quilting until next month,
Jeanette
